Post Game Quotes
Hawai‘i vs. UC Davis
Sept. 19, 2015

UH Head Coach Norm Chow
On being 2-1..
Well it’s a lot better than being 1-2. The guys really played hard tonight. We took their best shot and from a good team too. We converted on a handful of third down plays and we had to make plays on offense too. Really proud of the guys’ efforts tonight.

On Harris’s 95-yard rush from scrimmage..
We took everyone’s best shot during the game. We gave it all we had and they were doing the same thing to us. They really overloaded one side and we had to adjust back but I think we wore them out a bit. We were able to make big plays because of that and Paul is a good player and did just that.

On making halftime adjustments..
I asked them if anyone needed to go to the bathroom (laughter). You know, these guys know what to do. People don’t realize that it’s hard to win football games but these players know what it takes and what to do. I didn’t say a whole lot.

UC Davis Head Coach Ron Gould
Overall thoughts on tonight’s performance…
I love the way our team came out and fought for four quarters. It was a drastic improvement from the first two games. I saw the heart, the grit, the determination, and the guys played from the start to the end—that’s something I asked them to do.

On the team’s accumulation of penalties tonight…
I’m very disappointed in the amount of penalties we had and it’s uncharacteristic of our team. I’m a little befuddled as it relates to that. First year we were 10th in the country as the least penalized team in the country, last year we were fourth in the country. With all these penalties we had tonight, we couldn’t have the chance of any success.

On how the 95-yard touchdown run changed the mood of the game…
I think that’s on our end—the staff. We gotta get the call in sooner and so that hurt too. That was a stinger. For the most part, we had those guys wrapped up and we let one get out of the gate on us. When you’re playing good football teams, you gotta be able to answer every scoring drive and we weren’t able to keep up with that tonight.

On Chris Martin’s performance…
He’s had back-to-back weeks where he’s had great performances. He’s worked his fanny off until this point. He’s done an unbelievable job of working in practice and so the things that we’re seeing on Saturdays is a culmination of all the hard work this young man has put in day in and day out.

On UC Davis’ 3rd down efficiency…
The game plan was that we could run the football and that’s something that we did—we wanted to run and play action and that’s who we are. Weren’t coming here to try and shorten the game; that’s not our goal. We came here to win the football game. WE felt like we had the opportunity to run schemes…you have to give your hats off to Hawai‘i. They did a great job of responding, scoring and finishing drives. We stumbled a little bit and we weren’t able to be successful.

On UH’s #90 Kennedy Tulimasealii…
Well, he’s an NFL guy. He’s a really, really good player. We have a lot of respect for him watching him play against Ohio State. We have a tremendous amount of respect for this young man and he has a very bright future for him at the next level. I just want to encourage him to keep going, stay humble, and working hard.
